Marketing Planning and business development advice for St George’s Church Hall, Worcester

Marketing Strategy, Plan and business planning advice for the HLF funded Shire Hall Court House and Museum, Dorchester - Justice in the Balance - opened March 2018

Working as part of a University of Wolverhampton team, developed and delivered an Economic Impact Study of Leicester Cathedral culminating in presentation in the cathedral in October 2017. The commission arose from a sales project positioned around a study of Lichfield Cathedral conducted by the University in 2013. The selling activity required knowledge of cathedral issues and contacting some 15 English cathedrals in 2016 with varying degrees of response

Business Plan and consultation / marketing appraisal / marketing plan elements of the successful Round 2 Heritage Lottery Fund bid for over £1.2 million for Milton Abbey in Dorset, that was awarded in July 2016.  We worked with the three key stakeholders, the Diocese of Salisbury, the Forestry Commission and Milton Abbey School. The consultancy included a detailed review and profiling of the potential audience, estimates of visitor numbers, traffic impact and parking needs, governance, leading onto a detailed assessment of potential revenues from donations, retail and catering sales supported by extensive desk and online research utilising Mosaic data   Extensive liaison with the other consultants involved was required including architects, activity planners etc plus a presentation of the results of our work to the local community.   The aim of the project is to conserve and restore Milton Abbey Church and the associated Capability Brown landscape; encourage greater participation of the local community; generate an increase in visitor numbers; ensure future sustainability

Feasibility Study for a New Brewery Visitor Centre The aim was to determine the potential for establishing a visitor centre that was both sustainable and could enhance the reputation of the Company, a major brewery with pubs and hotels, on the site of a new brewery in a semi rural location but adjacent to an economic development area.

The review of the ability of the local and sub regional tourist and business markets to deliver an audience for a tourism related activity at the site demonstrated an opportunity might exist. Business history shows that there is merit in ‘sticking to the knitting’ and not move away from core competencies and culture. The recommendation was that the client should therefore focus on developing the concept of a hotel development following the relocation. This potentially could be allied with a visitor centre development with a significant ‘wow’ factor plus a small conference and/or meeting facility.
